RT2500-Replug

Problem

Many people report that their Ralink chip (RT2500, RT73, RT2870) based usb-wlan stick isn't recognized after a reboot using the original Ralink driver. The stick has to be unplugged and replugged to be used. Because of a driver design bug the correct driver isn't found and/or loaded at start-up. If the stick gets replug, the matching process for finding the correct driver is run again and the correct driver is found. But unplugging and replugging is tedious.

Solution

A solution would be a dummy driver, which simulates un- und replugging. So the original driver gets a second chance to be loaded. This is exactly what this driver does.

License

The license has change. It is not donationware anymore. The manufacturers / distributors have to license the RT2500Replug driver and to distribute it themselves. You may not redistribute it without permission from the author.

Individuals

If the manufaturer of your WLAN-USB-Dongle didn`t license my driver, you have to license it directly from me. Just send me 15 CHF, 10 EUR or 15 USD by PayPal / credit card and you`ll get the driver by email.

Other Problems and Solutions

Crash after unplugging / USBWirelessUtility doesn`t get loaded

Sometimes the USBWirelessUtility doesn't get loaded at startup and you don't get connected to your WLAN. If you unplug your WLAN-USB stick and the USBWirelessUtility isn't running, your mac could/will even crash. A work around is just to add it to the startup items using

System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login items.

Uninstall RT2500Replug

Just delete the kernel extension RT2500Replug.kext in the folder
/System/Library/Extensions. That`s all!
